Antietam Station

History: Soldiers who had fought at the Battle of Antietam returned by train to visit the battlefield and participate in reunions. The current station opened in 1911, just in time to greet veterans attending the battle's 50th anniversary commemoration a year later.

More to Explore: Norway maples were planted along what is now Rt. 34 to shade the veterans as they walked; some of those trees survive today. Today the station is part of the Hagerstown Model Railroad Museum. Allow time to visit Antietam National Battlefield, Keedysville, Boonsboro and Harpers Ferry for Civil War history and local culture and heritage.
