Buckeystown Park

History: Union General William B. Franklin's VI Corps passed by here on September 13 while marching from Urbana. The troops halted for an hour at the apple and peach orchards near the Delaplaine (Michael's) Mill. Hungry Confederates also marched through town, where a railroad agent opened a warehouse full of flour and said he would have as much bread baked as the troops could eat.

More to Explore: The riverside park today offers fishing, picnic shelters and play equipment within a historic district that features antiques and craft stores, as well as a luxury bed and breakfast that occupies a 19th-century mansion. The town of Frederick, with its acclaimed shopping, dining and architecture, is a short drive to the north.
