History: Confederate General J.E.B. Stuart held a "Sabers and Roses Ball" on September 8, 1862, at the Landon House, which remains a popular "special event" spot. Leading up to the Civil War, the Landon House was used as a girls' school and then a military academy. Wounded soldiers were brought here following a cavalry action at Hyattstown.
