Grove Farm

History: President Abraham Lincoln came to this property two weeks after the Battle of Antietam to visit the Army of the Potomac and its commander, General George B. McClellan. A famous photograph from October 2, 1862, shows Lincoln towering over the diminutive general and his officers. The mansion is privately owned, but a marker commemorates the meeting spot.

More to Explore: Be sure to visit nearby Antietam National Battlefield, site of the bloodiest single-day battle of the war, and the tiny town of Keedysville, which overflowed with wounded soldiers afterward. Plan side trips to Harpers Ferry and the historic C&O Canal.
