White's Ferry (C&O Canal NHP)

History: A major part of General Lee's army forded the Potomac River two miles north of this scenic, year-round cable ferry crossing. Established in 1782 and located about six miles west of Poolesville, it is the last working ferry on the river between Maryland and Virginia, popular for automobiles, foot passengers and bike traffic from the C&O Canal towpath.

More to Explore: A vineyard, equestrian facility and seasonal farm-based activities are found in nearby Dickerson and Comus.
